Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has launched a Twitter discussion asking for his next check to be Bitcoin. Suarez tweeted this while answering a question from a Twitter user @APompiliano.
@APompiliano wondered who would be the first politician to receive his salary in Bitcoin. Suarez replied that he was ready to receive one hundred percent of his next salary in coins. In addition, he asked Mike Saratsi to help him make it happen.
His response shook @APompiliano and asked Mike Saratsi and Jack Maltz to help set up the mayor. At this point, Mike confirmed that he had provided the Strike registration link.
Suarez is gaining support
Suarez’s response that he wants to get all the payouts in Bitcoin has sparked strong debate. On the one hand, his decision has earned him support and praise.
One of the people who strongly supports the mayor’s move is Mike Siratsi. In addition to sending the Strike registration link to Suarez, he asked him to continue.
He did this by sharing his experience of receiving part of his payment at BTC. For him, the process was flawless. He went on to call the mayor “the boss’s move.”
Another contributor, Joe, used by @RideTheBull, praised Suarez for his “leadership”. He further expressed confidence that the mayor’s action will affect others to follow this process.
Again, Joe believed that many were converting their paychecks to Bitcoin. Therefore, there was a need to simplify the process from its source.
Another user, TheCuriousHippy, praised the mayor as a thinker and investor. He added that bitcoin could be the answer to debt problems and extreme inflation. In the end, the fan wished the mayor success.
But not all are sold
Suarez was equally criticized. One of Shin Trammel disputed the mayor’s claim that he would receive his salary in Bitcoin.
He said he thinks the mayor intends to buy bitcoins with his next paycheck. He insisted that Suarez would only pay him if Miami paid for the bitcoin.
This is a position that Vinit Gunpowder agrees with. He tweeted that it is not possible for the mayor to receive his salary in Bitcoin.
Gunpowder also questioned the legality of such payments. To date, the US dollar is the only legal US currency.
Jon, another Twitter user, shares this view. He was skeptical about the possibility of the US government paying for the currency. In addition, he wondered how the mayor would pay his taxes.
Mayor Suarez is a supporter of crypto. He has worked to make Miami the capital of cryptocurrencies around the world. Therefore, his decision to receive his paycheck in Bitcoin is not surprising.
